Children's Liturgy of the Word At St. Leonard's 9:00 am Sunday mass, we practice a Children's Liturgy of the Word. After the opening rites, the young children are invited by the pastor to depart for the church hall to have their own version of the Liturgy of the Word. At the beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the children return to the church. We cover the Gospel of the day at a level the children can understand and enjoy. We enrich this with discussion, prayers, songs, and crafts. We also try to raise awareness of God's love, the humanity of Jesus, the Seasons of the Church, the understanding of symbols in the Mass and the context of the Bible. Our aim is to make the children's experience of church meaningful, whilst helping them to grow in the faith of the Catholic Church and develop as full and active members of our Parish Community. Social Action Social Action is a new ministry at St Leonard’s that provides parishioners an expanded opportunity to learn about, and become involved in, various social action and social justice activities. Our mandate is to reach out to those in need of humanitarian aid, through involvement in some kind of social action with several local, domestic and international projects. Development and Peace activities fall under this mandate, and as such, the parish rep for Development and Peace automatically becomes a member of the Social Action Ministry team. Members of the current Development and Peace team have all agreed to continue to serve on the new St Leonard Social Action Team. Newcomers to this new ministry team are most welcome. Throughout the year, the parish will be presented with projects at all three levels (local, domestic, and international), offering St Leonard parishioners an opportunity to connect to and support social action efforts on a personal level.
